St. Edwards Park

Tucked away along Bull Creek, St. Edwards Park is one of Austin’s best-kept secrets, offering wooded trails, waterfalls, and natural swimming holes just minutes from the city. The park is split into two sections: the north side, managed by the City of Austin, and the south side, part of the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve, where stricter conservation rules apply.

The park’s two main trailsCreek Trail and Hill Trail—offer contrasting experiences. The Creek Trail follows Bull Creek for about a mile, with easy access to waterfalls, wading pools, and shaded groves, while the Hill Trail climbs to the park’s highest point, rewarding hikers with panoramic views of the Bull Creek Valley.

Parking is limited, with two small lots along Spicewood Springs Road that fill quickly on weekends. While St. Edwards Park remains a peaceful retreat, visitors should be aware of occasional vehicle break-ins and plan accordingly. With no restrooms or water stations, this rugged, undeveloped park is best for those looking to escape the crowds and experience Austin’s wild side—where trails, waterfalls, and nature still feel untouched.
