    Guide

Where the Star-Spangled Banner was born: a compact fort with sweeping harbor views and living history. It’s an easy win—flat paths, open lawns, and a visitor film that sets the scene in under 15 minutes.

Start at the visitor center for your map, then follow the ramp to the east wall for the best harbor vantage. Time your visit for a flag raising or lowering—the ranger talk turns the place into a story you’ll remember.

For a slower visit, circle the star-shaped ramparts clockwise and watch ships move in and out of the Patapsco.

Located on the northwestern shore of Lake Travis, Mansfield Dam Park offers some of the deepest and clearest water access in Central Texas. Built around the massive Mansfield Dam, which was completed in 1941 to tame the Colorado River, the park provides stunning views of both the dam itself and the surrounding Hill Country landscape.

The park is a boater’s paradise, featuring a four-lane boat ramp that provides year-round access to Lake Travis, even during low water levels. Scuba divers frequent the area, drawn to the deep, crystal-clear waters, while swimmers enjoy the designated cove away from boat traffic. The park also features hiking trails, shaded picnic areas, and a scenic overlook that offers a breathtaking vantage point of the dam and lake.

With its expansive shoreline, water activities, and panoramic views, Mansfield Dam Park is a great spot for both relaxation and adventure on one of Austin’s most famous lakes.
