    Guide

Where the Star-Spangled Banner was born: a compact fort with sweeping harbor views and living history. It’s an easy win—flat paths, open lawns, and a visitor film that sets the scene in under 15 minutes.

Start at the visitor center for your map, then follow the ramp to the east wall for the best harbor vantage. Time your visit for a flag raising or lowering—the ranger talk turns the place into a story you’ll remember.

For a slower visit, circle the star-shaped ramparts clockwise and watch ships move in and out of the Patapsco.

Set on 75 wooded acres at the historic Lakewood Fairgrounds, Lakewood Amphitheatre has been a staple of Atlanta’s music scene since 1989. Built specifically for live music, it delivers elite acoustics in a massive open-air setting, making it a favorite for both fans and artists.

The venue holds 18,920 people, split between 7,000 covered seats and a sprawling lawn for 12,000 more. Its sound quality is so well-regarded that Phish has named it one of their top venues, and legendary acts like Elton John, Eric Clapton, Pearl Jam, and Sting have performed here. Linkin Park even recorded live tracks at Lakewood for two album releases.

Originally known as Coca-Cola Lakewood Amphitheatre, the venue has undergone several name changes over the years, including HiFi Buys Amphitheatre, Aaron’s Amphitheatre, and Cellairis Amphitheatre at Lakewood, before returning to its classic Lakewood Amphitheatre name in 2016. Today, it stands alongside Chastain Park Amphitheatre and Ameris Bank Amphitheatre as one of the top concert destinations in the region.

Beyond the music, Lakewood offers a full concert experience with $4 draft beers, meals from local food trucks, and VIP upgrades featuring private decks, bar service, and lounge seating. The amphitheater is also easily accessible via MARTA and major highways, with 6,000 parking spaces and VIP parking options.

With a storied history, top-tier acoustics, and a lineup featuring music’s biggest names, Lakewood Amphitheatre remains one of the South’s premier outdoor venues for unforgettable live performances.
