    Where the Star-Spangled Banner was born: a compact fort with sweeping harbor views and living history. It’s an easy win—flat paths, open lawns, and a visitor film that sets the scene in under 15 minutes.

    Start at the visitor center for your map, then follow the ramp to the east wall for the best harbor vantage. Time your visit for a flag raising or lowering—the ranger talk turns the place into a story you’ll remember.

    For a slower visit, circle the star-shaped ramparts clockwise and watch ships move in and out of the Patapsco.

    A Gilded Age mansion filled with art, rare books, and architectural wonders, Evergreen Museum & Library is a portal into Baltimore’s aristocratic past.     A docent-led tour takes you through 15 lavishly decorated rooms, including the awe-inspiring John Work Garrett Library, housing 30,000 rare volumes, among them a first edition of The Great Gatsby. The mansion’s private theater, designed by Ballets Russes visionary Leon Bakst, dazzles with vibrant, immersive decor.

    Beyond the opulent interiors, 26 acres of gardens, meadows, and wooded trails invite exploration. Once evaluated by landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, the grounds offer a serene escape into nature and history.
