The Baltimore Streetcar Museum preserves the city’s rich transit history, offering visitors the chance to ride fully restored streetcars on original tracks. Founded in 1966, the museum traces its origins back to 1928, when Baltimore’s first retired trolleys were set aside for preservation.
The collection includes historic streetcars, transit buses, and railway artifacts, with some trolleys dating back to the 19th century. The original ¼-mile track has expanded to 1¼ miles, complete with turnarounds and double tracks, recreating the city’s bustling streetcar era.
Despite setbacks—including severe flooding from Tropical Storm David in 1979—the museum has remained a labor of love, run by dedicated volunteers. Today, visitors can experience the sights, sounds, and motion of Baltimore’s streetcar past, making this one of the most immersive transit museums in the country.
