    Guide

Where the Star-Spangled Banner was born: a compact fort with sweeping harbor views and living history. It’s an easy win—flat paths, open lawns, and a visitor film that sets the scene in under 15 minutes.

Start at the visitor center for your map, then follow the ramp to the east wall for the best harbor vantage. Time your visit for a flag raising or lowering—the ranger talk turns the place into a story you’ll remember.

For a slower visit, circle the star-shaped ramparts clockwise and watch ships move in and out of the Patapsco.

The Atlanta BeltLine is one of the most ambitious urban redevelopment projects in the U.S., transforming old railway corridors into a 22-mile multi-use trail system that connects 45 neighborhoods through walking and biking paths, green spaces, and public art. Designed as a loop around the city’s core, it’s a unique way to experience Atlanta’s evolving landscape—blending history, culture, and recreation in one continuous route.

Among its most popular sections is the Eastside Trail, a lively 3-mile path lined with murals, sculptures, and BeltLine-adjacent hotspots like Ponce City Market, Historic Fourth Ward Park, and Krog Street Market. The Westside Trail winds through historic neighborhoods, linking parks, breweries, and community gathering spaces. Other segments, including the Northside and Southside Trails, continue expanding, further integrating the BeltLine into the city’s daily life.

Whether you’re biking, walking, or just exploring, the BeltLine offers a one-of-a-kind way to see Atlanta—where old rail lines now pulse with new energy, creativity, and connection.
