    Guide

Where the Star-Spangled Banner was born: a compact fort with sweeping harbor views and living history. It’s an easy win—flat paths, open lawns, and a visitor film that sets the scene in under 15 minutes.

Start at the visitor center for your map, then follow the ramp to the east wall for the best harbor vantage. Time your visit for a flag raising or lowering—the ranger talk turns the place into a story you’ll remember.

For a slower visit, circle the star-shaped ramparts clockwise and watch ships move in and out of the Patapsco.

Spanning 1,150 feet over Lake Austin, the Pennybacker Bridge—better known as the 360 Bridge—is an architectural marvel and a favorite spot for panoramic views of the Colorado River and Texas Hill Country. Opened in 1982, the bridge was uniquely designed with a tied-arch structure to keep its support columns out of the water, preserving the lake for boaters and wildlife.

The rusted steel blends seamlessly with the surrounding cliffs, creating one of Austin’s most photographed landmarks. A short but steep hike up the adjacent cliffs rewards visitors with breathtaking sunset views—one of the best in the city. With its bike lanes, lake access, and scenic backdrop, the 360 Bridge is a must-see for both outdoor lovers and photography enthusiasts.
